LAVANYA SANKAR

With over one thousand performances and several awards & titles, including the Kalaimamani from the Government of Tamil Nadu, Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar from Sangeet Natak Akademi, Nadanamamani, and Yuva Kala Bharathi, Lavanya Sankar is among the most eminent Bharathanatyam dancers of her generation today.

Lavanya is also an accomplished nattuvangam artiste, an imaginative choreographer of Bharathanatyam ballets and productions, an A-graded artiste for Doordarshan National, and an empanelled artiste for ICCR. She imparts training in Bharathanatyam at her dance school, Abhyasa.

ABHYASA

Founded by Guru Smt. Lavanya Sankar in 2004 in Coimbatore, Abhyasa Academy of Classical Dance is committed to imparting to its students rigorous training in Bharathanatyam, primarily in the Vazhuvoor style of the art form. Currently, over 200 students, starting from the age of 5, learn at Abhyasa. Over twenty of them have had their Arangetrams, and have started performing at dance festivals and Sabhas all over India and abroad.

Abhyasa has three branches at Coimbatore, and conducts classes every day of the week in batches.
